Hard hard labor... xP
So, today, I started my first day of work as an intern at LSU. I walked to work... days in NO are hot and sweaty and humid, and the work is pretty long, and it's all outside. It was pretty horrible. But I think I'll get used to it. I hope. So anyways, I worked on DNA isolation and purification. We finished with preparing the agar gel and my mentorish person finished dying the purified and spliced DNA and placed it into the electrophoresis plate. She will take pictures of the gel and show it to me tomorrow. It was all very exciting, although there was some time in between in which I had nothing to do, so I got to draw a few doodles, although I couldn't find a single good pencil so I had to use my pen. They didn't turn out half bad; I'm pretty pleased.

There was this one lady that was there who apparently my dad and my boss (his friend) both like I think, although my first impression of her isn't very good. She seemed a little haughty in my opinion, and her whole attitude towards me was a little annoying. It was as if she didn't believe I deserved to be there. When I was watching my mentor person fill the little test tube things with caps (can never remember the names of the things) I heard her saying to our boss, "Wow, she's getting paid to watch us do stuff?!?!" in this horribly exasperated disbelieving voice. Our boss had told me when I got there, right in front of her, that I was to watch my mentor person first while she prepares the solution and then I could start helping her do the rest of the lab. The rest of the day she either ignored me or talked down at me as if I was five years old. When our boss told her that I knew a lot about biology, she just nodded and made this disbelieving skeptical sound and looked at me as if she thought that me knowing anything about biology was absurd. For freaking Lorrie's sake I've taken two years of Biology including one year of AP molecular biology last year; I hope I know a little something about biology. Goodness. Anyways, enough ranting for now. :D

So, after work my dad and I went swimming for about an hour... I haven't been swimming in ages; I'm down to about 12 laps in half an hour now. x_X I didn't bring goggles with me, and my eyes are really sensitive to chlorine, so my head was up the whole time. xD It was very amusing for everyone. This lady kept on staring at me. And oh my Lorrie since France I've gained like, 15 lbs and I can barely fit into my swimsuit anymore... it's depressing.

Dinner was at this nice little restaurant near the swimming place. I had grilled shrimp sandwiches, grilled fish, and gumbo. They were all delicious except the fish. It wasn't bad, but not as good as it could have been. The center of the fish was still a little raw, which was a huge putoff.

Laundry is today; my whole wardrobe is in the wash right now. I didn't wash any clothes in France. There were no washing machines in Paris, and I felt awkward making my host family wash my clothes. So, I have like, one outfit left consisting of my black undershirt (which I didn't wear in France; it was too hot) and my dad's tennis shorts. xD

Well, it's 11pm here again, and the laundry's done, so Imma gonna change into my jammies and sleep now.

Loves ~
