So... um, yeah. I haven't posted in like, half a month.
Well, I went on a boat ride with my dad's colleagues... they had sons, so there were two little boys running around the boat and me. Both were 10 years old. One was Will, who's pretty cool, so I'm chill with that, but the other one was... I don't even remember his name. Well, he's talkative, had a pseudo-crush on me which was totally obvious, just like every other little boy under the age of 12 here... >.> (which is actually quite depressing and not flattering in the very least...) okay, so back to the boy. He's okay, but a freaking know-it-all who loves showing off. So, we're on the boat like, 30 seconds and he's already rattling off all this stuff about boats and ships and making us look stupid. And he doesn't stop until we get off the boat. I'm serious. Every other thing he said started with, "Hey, did you know that... [insert some random fact about boats here]" I mean, come one. Will and I were going crazy... xD Seriously... it was interesting the first five facts in, but after that? It got really annoying really fast. Cool thing is, I got to drive the boat around for awhile, which was totally awesome. Although I wasn't allowed to drive it very fast (icky Dad) but it was still cool. The weather was killer though... I nearly died of a heat stroke, which is pretty much how I feel every day here. To quote myself from an email sent to a friend, "You could toast bread on the pavement, and steam dumplings while you're at it with all this humidity. I swear, I come out of the shower sweating. It's absolutely disgusting.” I’ll bet you really needed to know that last part. Yeah, you did. xD So, I’ve been pretty much going to work every day, and doing experiments, etc, and trying to cram as much Japanese homework as possible in between. I managed to memorize over 500 vocab words in less than a week; I’m pretty proud of myself. I just finished the second to last lesson in the Japanese 3 curriculum, so all I need to do is do the last lesson, do all the projects I skipped, and work on the two semester finals… if time allows. xD Then, I’ll need to start working on my LOR stuff, as well as get started on my college apps and study for my SATs (again, I know). So, I got a 21xx… can’t remember. 2110? 212o? I don’t know… something like that. So I’ll be taking it again, and see if I can’t do better. Lots better, hopefully. Ah well… wishful thinking. AP scores are here, but since I’m not home and they don’t post scores online, I won’t know what I got until I get back home. X_X Ah well. So, funny stuff at work. Matt was wearing this shirt with some band logo on it (apparently it’s some jazz band or other) anyways. It looks like a short little microphone, but the mike looks like something out of Cardcaptors or whatever. Come to think of it… it looks like the end of Sakura’s wand thing! Anyways, Dr. Wu, my boss, asked Matt why he was wearing a PBS Kids shirt. It was hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing. You had to be there. Really. Then, Matt was talking to us, (my supervisor and me) and he named this author dude. Again, the conversation sprung out of another shirt he was wearing. This one came from a café in SF. And neither of us knew who he was talking about… I thought he was talking about some colleague at LSU, and I don’t even know what my supervisor was thinking… Matt got the funniest exasperated face in the world and gave us book titles to try and see if we knew who he was talking about. We didn’t. Although I do think I’ve heard of someone whose name sounds like the one he was saying, in my defense. Apparently he likes that author and the café on his shirt was the author’s favorite haunt or something. I feel really bad for him… he’s in a lab with all Asians… and with the exception of Dr. Wu, who’s a guy, we’re all girls. xD And all of us are from China, and speak Chinese, and it’s the preferred language among them… xD I don’t really care, I usually prefer the language the person I’m trying to talk to is most comfortable with; it makes conversing a lot easier. Unless, of course, I don’t know the language. That would be a slight problem. Getting off that tangent now. So, apparently Matt is able to graduate and has been able to for quite a while now any time he wants, but he keeps extending it because his girlfriend is still here. I’ve seen her, and even though she’s smiled at me once out of all the times we’ve met, she doesn’t come across as a very nice person to me. But hey… when have first impressions defined a person? Don’t answer that. She’s very curvy, if you catch my drift, and wears interesting clothes. She’s not ugly… I don’t want to be rude here. Anyways… based on my first impression of her (which is the only thing I have to go by) I don’t like her very much. But then, it might be influenced by her coming into our lab every other day to chat with Matt and since we share the same lab table/desk space thing, it gets quite annoying trying to navigate around her and work while she’s standing there chatting. When I’m not working on a lab or doing my Japanese homework, it’s quite amusing to watch. xD Okay, back to life in New Orleans. Well, I’ve been shopping, and have eaten at more restaurants. The food, as usual, is fantastic, although Cali sushi kicks NO’s butt any day. The malls here are very nice, although Will’s mom (she took me shopping yesterday) is obsessed with Dillard’s, which in my opinion is WAY FREAKING TOO EXPENSIVE. I saw this plain old black dress, almost exactly like the one I got in China for really cheap going for $265. Of course, it came with an AWESOME belt that I really wanted, but I wasn’t going to pay that price for it. And the dress itself wasn’t great… I like mine better. But I did buy some clothes. For example, I bought a pair of pants from Hot Topic: ![]() (piccie from HT site, not mine) This nice little skirt that’ll match my bunni hoodie from Charlotte Russe: (I wanted to buy this awesome top too, but didn’t feel like spending $50 there… >.>) ![]() (piccie from CR site, not mine) Oh, and just because I feel like it (and because I just found it) here's a picture of my bunni hoodie: ![]() (piccie from HT site, not mine... and yeah... the model is... um, yeah) I also bought a skirt and a pair of shorts from Body Central, but I can’t find pictures of them on their site… they were in the clearance section, so I’m not surprised. Basically, the skirt is a high-waisted pink-white-black-navy plaid with a hot pink trim at the waist and a bow in the center. Very cute. Spur of the moment buy… I actually wore it today. Goes great with my Disney tinkerbell tee and black leggings or tight stretchy pants. That’s basically it… oh, skipped church last weekend (not that I really minded… the only things I like about church is 1. I get to meet my new friends 2. I get art from the amazing Carol… and that’s it) dad dragged me on his retreat, which happened to be in Mississippi. I got to drive. :D It wasn’t very fun. Sure the beach was on our doorstep, but day we got there… well, we arrived at dinnertime, and by the time we had unpacked, etc. the mosquitoes were out and it was time for bed. The next day, it rained the whole day, so Rui and I watched X/1999 episodes to pass the time. It made me go all nostalgic, and I had to launch into this huge long lecture on everything you need to know about X if you want to make any sense of the anime, which lasted a few hours. Then on Sunday it was time to leave after breakfast. I swear, the place we stayed at… it was 60 degrees the whole entire time in our dorm, and I couldn’t find the thermostat to change it until Sunday, when it was time to leave. Turns out it was hiding beside the bulletin board next to the public bathroom disguised as a fire alarm thing. X_X Well, we had dinner at this barbecue place… which was kind of interesting, but the food was REALLY good. It was called The Shack or something like that. Yeah… I know. Then everyone went to the mall to get ice cream, and let me tell you. Our little group of smart university faculty people and their spouses and me populated the whole mall. There was seriously NO ONE there… okay, maybe like, three. Literally. It was really sad. The mall had like, 6 shops. Total. It was beyond sad. Tomorrow was supposed to be a day off from work, but it turns out I left my planner there, and so I’ll have to go and get it. I’ll bring my camera too, and take a picture of everyone while I’m at it. I’ll also be able to see the results of my gel electrophoresis lab with proteins. I’ll come home early, finish up my Japanese homework (yeah right) and… chill. Yeah. Oh… and the layout won’t change until I get back to Cali, which will be sometime next week. I think that’s about it… oh! So, Sandy has been updating us with her adventures at Boston U, and she tells me that there are lots of punk dudes there, but she won’t take any pictures. How horrible is that? Even if they are a bunch of posers (according to her, not me; I haven’t seen them) I still wanna get photos of them. Is that really too much to ask? I’m trying to bribe her with chocolate. Let’s hope it works. :D Loves ~
